Yesterday me, a friend and his colleague visited the doomsday device in Geneva.

I didn’t expect so many people to find something boring like physics so interesting ;-)

People stood already in line when we showed up at 9:30, half an hour after opening.

At about 12:30 we were at the front of the queue and got tickets to visit the LHC tunnel at 16:00 ;-(

So we went out for lunch an checked out the other sights on the CERN campus.

After some more queuing at 16:00 we finally got in. All in all it was very impressive, but a bit short for all the waiting time.

When we got out, the queue for the ATLAS detector seemed reasonably short. So we decided to give it a shot. After about 20 minutes we were in the next batch of people to enter the caves.

They showed us a presentation and a 3D movie, and then we took the elevator down to the cavern.

It was an absolutely gigantic apparatus. The most complex piece of technology in the biggest man-made cave.

I’ve been using the Creative Commons license for my photos for quite some time now.

Yesterday I was informed that one of my images has been used in a film.
The picture they used can be seen at 2 minutes 17 seconds.

He is using some of my pictures. For more pictures, keep an eye on my flickr page. I’m currently moving my Aperture library, since it greeted me with a disk is full warning, so it might take a little longer to process all the images.

Around the Airport

Sadly very few of our pictures of the landing strip look good. It was simply too foggy. We couldn’t even see a plane directly starting above our heads…
Luckily there were plenty of things to picture around the airport and terminals.

One HDR Tonemapping picture turned out well too… but that’s another post…

My first atempt on the upcoming tonemapping trend. Not the perfect image for tonemapping since the scene was actually litt well, not very different from the result. Just pumped up the contrast a litle more. Zaphod and I got a bunch of Fotos at this night from the airport but we cant decide which to put online … guess we have to practice little bit more with our D400′dreds.

A380 Turbulence Testflight

I managed to capture some snapahots from the A380 Turbulence Testflight by Munich. The images aren’t sharp or briliant but it was nice to have this monster of modern engineering flying a couple of hundred neters above my head. They tested the turbulences of start and landing and messured them against the 747 or with it i dont know.By the way the A380 is half as loud as the 747 becaus the engine is much duller the the old ones.
