How to add custom Icons to your C4D
I recently got bored with the default “non existent” icon
of two cinema Commands i I often use. So I just fiddled around withe the “interface_icons.tif” and its “interface_icons.txt”. Both are found in the “..\CINEMA 4D R11\resource\icons” Folder (equivalent on mac too i guess)
- Open Cinema 4D, open the Command Manager and search fo your Commad which you’d like to add an icon to. write down somewhere that ID you’ll need it later.
- close cinema
- Go to your icon resource location “..\CINEMA 4D R11\resource\icons”
- Remove the wright protection, each of the two files.
- Open the interface_icons.tif file and add your icon’s at the end. Don’t forgett to make an alpha mask. You can add a sepperate layer for further adjustments cinema can read layer tifs.
- Open interface_icons.txt and add the noted Command ID from earlier at the end of the file. Important is that cinema reads the file from top to bottom and left to right so the order of your new added icons hast of course to match the Command ID’s in the interface_icons.txt file.
- save the interface_icons.txt file, open Cinema.
And here are my two icons as a transparent PNG for your convenience.
Note!
Backup your changed interface_icons.tif image and interface_icons.txt file, because the next c4d update could overwrite your changes.
That’s it, have fun with your new icons …
