Feel free to look around but don’t copy anything without asking me.
Yesterday me, a friend and his colleague visited the doomsday device in Geneva.
I didn’t expect so many people to find something boring like physics so interesting ;-)
People stood already in line when we showed up at 9:30, half an hour after opening.
At about 12:30 we were at the front of the queue and got tickets to visit the LHC tunnel at 16:00 ;-(
So we went out for lunch an checked out the other sights on the CERN campus.
After some more queuing at 16:00 we finally got in. All in all it was very impressive, but a bit short for all the waiting time.
When we got out, the queue for the ATLAS detector seemed reasonably short. So we decided to give it a shot. After about 20 minutes we were in the next batch of people to enter the caves.
They showed us a presentation and a 3D movie, and then we took the elevator down to the cavern.
It was an absolutely gigantic apparatus. The most complex piece of technology in the biggest man-made cave.
Hi I am back from Denmark and I had a really god time there. I worked at Jacob Jensen Design for half a year. I cannot tell anything about that, but if you want to get some information and a feeling you can head to these sites to get a glimpse.
I’m back from Copenhagen. Jan has already written a short blog entry over here.
He is using some of my pictures. For more pictures, keep an eye on my flickr page. I’m currently moving my Aperture library, since it greeted me with a disk is full warning, so it might take a little longer to process all the images.

I’m currently in Geneva. The train trip has been awful, since the planned two stops in Karlsruhe and Basel turned out to be five stops in somwhere, Crailsheim, Stuttgart, Zurich and Bern. One track was closed since they found a bomb from the Second World War underneith or something.
Beeing several hours late, I went straight to bed this day.
The next day turned out to be a very beautiful day. It was the Swiss National Day. The weather was sunny with a clear sky. Perfect for shooting 250+ pictures in and around Geneva. I even have a slight sunburn now. In the evening, there was a big celebration in the park, with bonfire, professional fireworks and 24 detonations so loud, half of the people there must have hearing damage now.
Today, August 2nd, the sky wasn’t clear at all… 99% chance of rain. Well the famous “Jet d’eau” in the Geneva lake seemed to come from above. After a dry stay in the shopping center, I got very soaked while walking around geneva with an umbrella. Luckily the camera stayed – well, dry is the wrong word – intact, and I got some nice pictures out of it.
The WIFI Connection I snatched, is a bit flakey. So I’ll post some more pictures when I have a better connection.
Stay tuned, Rainer
I’ve made iCal files with the schedules for Mainstage, Maincircus and Cocoon tent. You can use these files to add the entries to your Outlook, iCal or Google Calendar and sync it to your smart phone. If someone made files for the other stages/tents, please let me know.
